Angatu: A Journey Back to the Heart of the Amazon

I go back to Belém every year. But this time was different.

This time, I stepped off the plane not just as someone returning home — but as a founder, an herbalist, a mother who had spent years carrying the Amazon inside her chest, and was finally doing something about it. For the first time in my life, I felt the full circle. The forest that raised me was now the foundation of everything I was building.

This trip was more than a homecoming. It was a celebration of the Amazon — its people, its abundance, its incredible living culture. We did our first Angatu photoshoot on a beautiful island — crossing the river on a small boat, water hitting the sides, birds everywhere. On one side: Belém, my city, all concrete and noise and life. On the other: pure nature. Ribeirinho communities built on stilts over the water, the forest stretching endlessly behind them. Two worlds facing each other across the same river.

I found our models and photographers through a friend's recommendation — Amazonian creatives with deep roots in this land. What I didn't expect was the energy on set. Everyone was genuinely excited — not just professionally, but personally. The feeling of being part of something that gave back to the place that made them. That's what you see in every image.

We shot inside a ribeirinho community I had never visited before. Built from biomaterials. Collecting all its own rainwater. Using açaí seeds — the same açaí in your Angatu products — to filter and purify water. I stood there quietly for a moment. The Amazon has always known what it needs. It just needs us to pay attention.

These images tell a story of tradition, beauty, and the Amazon I grew up in. They reflect the heart of Angatu — skincare that celebrates nature and gives back to it. Every product we make starts in a place like this, with people like them.
